Kanchanaburi is a small town located west of Bangkok towards Myanmar and is famous for its beautiful surrounding nature but beyond its beauty there is also a dark history. During the WWII Japanese forces used allied prisoners of war to build a railway between Thailand and Myanmar and over 12.000 people lost their lives.

Train
Catch a train from Thonburi station, the train ride takes approximately 2 1/2 hours and will offer you beautiful sceneries along the way. Just buy your ticket at the train station.

Bus:
Busses to Kanchanaburi from Bangkok leaves from Sai Tai Mai (Southern Terminal and Morchit (Northern Terminal).
Sai Tai Mai: Regular buses departs every 20 minutes, from an office next to Sangchuto, just west of the main terminal fpr 110 baht (3.7$). Minibuses departs every half-hour and costs 120 baht (4$). They all run from 04.00 to 20.00. The trip takes between three and four hours.
Morchit: Minibuses departs hourly from 04.00 to 18.00 for 120 baht (4$). Regular buses departs at 12.00 and 13.30 and costs between 94 to 120 baht. (3.1$-4$)
