Rainbow Mountains

The Rainbow Mountains also known as Montaña de Siete Colores, and Montaña de Coloresare are located east of Cusco and you won’t have a problem finding tour companies in Cusco offering tours there. Make sure to choose a tour that leaves early in the morning to hopefully avoid some of the crowds.

DO NOT book this online since its very over priced!

It’s not a long walk but it’s quite exhausting since you’re walking up to an elevation of nearly 5200 meters.

Watch these fluffy llamas at the viewpoint

This is usually how a day tour looks like:

-Hostel pick-up between 4 am - 5 am

-Drive for about two hours

-Breakfast stop for 45 minutes

-Drive for another 1 1/2 hours to the Rainbow Mountain car park

-Walk along trail to the viewpoint, takes about 1 1/2 - 2 hours

-Stay at viewpoint for 10-20 minutes

-Walk the trail back to the tour bus approximately 1 hour

-Drive 1 1/2 hours to have a lunch break

-Drive back another 2 hours to Cusco
